My Fitness Pal is a calorie counter journal that allows users to count caloric (and kilojoule) intake as well as and expenditure through exercise. Users can track their progress through weightloss and measurements. It has free mobile applications for iPhone, iPad, Android, Blackberry, and Windows Phone 7 that synchronises with your online account. What we like about the application;
- 3,000,000 entries in its food database allows ease of tracking what you are eating.
- Ability to save and reuse meals makes data entry more efficient
- Notifications can be set to remind you to enter the data
- Ability to calculate nutritional value of recipes
The application also has a ‘social’ function that allows users to follow and support each other. The application itself does not provide dietary or exercise guidance but it does allow you to track what you eat, drink and do. This includes breakdown of nutritional information over a daily and weekly basis. This flexibility allows it to be used in conjunction with any dietary regime. The application is quick to load and easy to enter data. Whilst the application is excellent for recording of information it would be even more useful if it had a function to track food groups. It has been particularly useful for some staff members here at Chiropractic at Magill in highlighting inadequate water intake and has helped in being more aware of what we are eating. Chiropractic at Magill is not affiliated with the application recommended in this article.
