Squat vs Hip Thrust? What to do?

Here is a cool small study looking at the effects on hip thrust exercise vs squatting on sprint time, vertical and horizontal jumping.

When you look at the two movements below you could see how the hip thrust movement would involve a little more hip extension activating more of gluteus maximus and thus having more of an effect on propulsion horizontally. This would be great for sprinters, footballers, long jumpers. However, if you need to jump in your chosen sport, make sure you’re squatting.
